What is the Speakers Bureau?

What is the Speakers Bureau?

Peering into the window from the rooftop across the street through a telescope, tapping phones, tracing emails… The Speakers Bureau works in secret to keep older adults and people with disabilities safe… Ok, maybe not.  But the name is kind of mysterious, isn’t it? Would you like to know more about what the Speakers Bureau really is? Let’s dig in!

The purpose of the Speakers Bureau is to educate the community and build awareness of Direction Home Akron Canton Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities, its programs, and its mission. There are several topics that speakers might speak on. Topics include:

  • General
  • Local seniors
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid to VA
  • Older adults and people with disabilities
  • Specific DHAD programs
  • Vulnerable demographics
  • Advocacy
  • Government/legislation

Most assignments for the Speakers Bureau originate as requests from outside groups. They are interested in a particular topic and look to DHAD as the expert or some are just interested in finding out more about what we do. DHAD speakers are some of the most popular speakers in our region. In 2018, our speakers addressed thousands of audience members.

So, it’s not exactly a secret society of spies and masterminds. BUT – we’ve got some information that people really need to know and we won’t keep it a secret.  If you have a group who would like to learn more about any of the aforementioned topics, contact us to discuss how Direction Home Aging & Disabilities can help.
