Health Wealth offers innovative, evidence-based disease prevention/health promotion education programs. The curriculums are developed by a team of teachers, physicians, biologists, public health researchers and educators, and tested to ensure effectiveness. All programs are FREE and open to the public and are offered at various locations within the community. Health Wealth is is a series of health promotion/disease prevention programs specially designed to keep older adults healthier longer and assist in managing chronic diseases and the symptoms often accompanied by those diseases. Health Wealth offers innovative, evidence-based programs that were developed by a team of teachers, physicians and researchers and tested to ensure effectiveness. The following programs are available: Chronic Disease Self-Management (CDSMP): CDSMP is a series of six (2 1/2 hour) workshops designed to help adults of any age gain confidence in their ability to manage symptoms and understand how their health problems affect their lives. Chronic diseased include but are not limited to; Arthritis, Hypertension, Lung Disease, and Heart Disease. Chronic Pain Self-Management (CPSM): CPSM is a series of six (2 1/2 hour) workshops designed to help those with chronic pain manage and decrease their symptoms. Chronic pain can be defined as pain that lasts longer than six months and may include back and neck pain, and other symptoms that can be defined as chronic pain. Diabetes Self-Management (DSM): DSM is a program that builds on the successful structure of Healthy U, but is tailored specifically for adults living with type 2 diabetes. This program is conducted in a series of six, 2 1/2 hour weekly workshops at locations within your community. Matter of Balance (MOB): MOB is an interactive education program that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view falls as controllable, set realistic goals, change their environment to reduce risk factors and exercise to increase strength and balance. Matter of Balance is a four week program. Tai Chi-Moving for Better Balance: The Tai Chi program offered by the Akron/Canton Area Agency on Aging is an education and exercise program that aims to strengthen muscles and prevent falls. The exercises are easy to do and can be done from a sitting or standing position. This program meets two times a week for 12 weeks. Interested in a Healthy U program?
