Direction Home Akron Canton Foundation
Developed in 1999, the Direction Home Akron Canton Foundation believes that all older adults, regardless of income, deserve to achieve their long-term care goals. We assist in part through the Care Coordination program, as well as through our dedicated advocacy for public policy change.
In Ohio, 73 out of 88 counties have Senior Service Levies to aid in expanding services to older adults. However, none of the four counties Direction Home Akron Canton serves (Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne) benefits from the funding of a Senior Service Levy. A large percentage of the Foundation's funds go directly toward advocacy for older adults and their well-being, including Senior Service Levy efforts.
Our mission is to enable older adults not eligible for government assistance to remain independent and secure at home through access to a range of supportive services.
All older adults in our region shall have access to community-based long-term care regardless of their ability to pay.
Support Our Mission
Donations play a huge role in helping our Foundation achieve its mission. One hundred percent of your donation will go toward ensuring proper long-term care options for older adults. Your generosity can help make make this possible!
How We're Funded
In addition to individual donations, the Foundation is funded through the following efforts:
Annual Foundation Raffle
Each year the Foundation Raffle raises over $100,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to advocacy efforts geared toward influencing public policy for the betterment of older adults. We purchase the prizes with points earned on the Agency credit cards or collect them as generous donations. Past prizes have included all-inclusive seven-day trips to exotic locations, home theater packages, Visa gift cards, spa packages and more! Care for a Lifetime
The Care for a Lifetime Campaign is an internal fundraising effort led by Direction Home Akron Canton employees. In past years, employees have donated over $50,000. These funds help to place 10 moderate income older adults on the Care Coordination program and assist in outreach efforts that include radio spots, community education efforts and direct mail pieces.
CARE Coalition NEO Conference 2018
Direction Home Akron Canton Foundation is a proud recipient of a portion ($14,000) of the CARE Coalition NEO Conference 2018 proceeds. Those funds will be used to further our mission. The conference sold out in its very first year with Dr. Eric Coleman of the Care Transitions Institute (CTI) and the University of Colorado at Denver delivering the keynote address, "An Under-recognized Key to Improving Transitional Care: Feedback Loops.”
On March 14th, 2019, the CARE Coalition NEO will hold its 2nd Annual Conference at Akron's John S. Knight Center. Direction Home Akron Canton is pleased to announce that we will again receive a portion of the proceeds from that event. Many thanks to the CARE Coalition NEO Conference Committee!
The CARE Coalition is a movement to unite and engage healthcare professionals to more effectively and efficiently provide quality patient care, improve outcomes and cultivate collaborative processes among the many different channels of healthcare delivery.
