It is estimated that there are 44 million people worldwide living with Alzhimer's disease or a related form of dementia. Additionally, it is estimated that one to four family members act as caregivers for each individual with Alzheimer's disease.
Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice and Direction Home have partnered with renowned speaker, Naomi Feil, creator of the Validation Method that teaches invaluable technuques for connecting with loved ones with Alzheimer's, enhancing their dignity and bringing them peace.
- Identify a personal centering technique to use before beginning an empathetic interaction with a disoriented elderly person
- Correlate Feil's "Phases of Resolution" with observed behaviors of elderly persons with dementia
- Apply selected Validation principles to their understanding of these behaviors
- Respond empathetically to the disoriented person using verbal and non-verbal validation techniques
About the Speaker: Naomi Feil, MSW, ACSW
Naomi Feil, a social worker for the elderly who began her career in the 1960s, developed the Validation Method after she grew dissatisfied with common practices in dealing with seniors with Alzheimer’s. So she devised her own method and published a book on it, called "Validation: The Feil Method," in 1982. She is founder and Director in Chief of the Validation Training Institute (VTI) which has progressively developed certification levels and formed a network of national and/or regional Validation organizations in the United States. As a Master Validation Teacher, Naomi presents workshops nationally and internationally.
