Summary

Every year, on the 15th of October, older adults can begin to make changes to their Medicare plans as part of the Open Enrollment period. And every year, questions inevitably pop up surrounding the program: What parts do I need to be covered? Does this cover my prescriptions? What is dual eligibility and do I qualify? Which supplemental plans should I get? Why does it feel like everything keeps changing from year to year? This course offers a deep dive into Medicare and its components, both traditional and supplemental plan options, to explain what is included in each part. It tackles the issues with Medicare at both the state and federal levels and provides solutions and resources for tackling these issues during enrollment.

Objectives:

  • List the similarities between Medicare and Medicaid in Ohio
  • Describe Medicare Part A and B as well as supplemental insurance options and Medicare "Buy In" Programs
  • Identify and describe current Medicare Issues and their impact on patients and those who work in health and social services
