This course will review Ohio's ethical standards for social service professionals - with attention paid to recent revisions to ethical codes and the top violations by licensed mental health professionals in Ohio. The goal is to help professionals recognize and resolve ethical dilemmas through the examination of case examples and applicable codes of ethics.

Objectives:

  • Understand key revisions made to ethical standards and Ohio laws and rules in recent years
  • Identify ways to recognize ethical dilemmas, with attention paid to the top violations committed by social service professionals in Ohio
  • Discuss options in resolving ethical dilemmas while balancing professional standards and client rights
  • Identify professional/legal duties and ways to mitigate malpractice risk

The goal of this workshop is to help mental health and other social service supervisors develop the supervisory relationship, which has been described as the foundation for professional growth and learning of the supervisee. Attention will be paid to evidence-based interventions and cultural awareness in supervision.

Objectives:

  • Describe the professional standards and empirical research on the importance of the supervisory relationship
  • Identify ways to navigate power differentials within the supervisory relationship while fostering supervisee growth
  • Describe professional standards and empirical research on the importance of cultural humility within supervision
  • Identify tools to develop multiculturally-informed supervision

About the Speaker: Stacy Simera, MSSA, LISW-S

Stacy is a licensed independent social worker, psychotherapist, and substance abuse professional with over thirty years of experience across the medical and social work fields. With a Masters of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University, she is an accomplished advocate for national education and community groups such as the Ohio Adolescent Health Partnership and the Ohio NASW Board of Directors, where she served as a regional director. She was awarded the 2014 Social Worker of the Year award, both regionally and statewide, and received the Letter of Honor for Tremendous Attainment from the Ohio Senate in the same year. She continues to inspire and educate the next generation of social workers, running CEUs and teaching classes across the state. She currently chairs for the national non-profit Start School Later and is a psychotherapist for Kent Psychological Associates.

 

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION INFORMATION:

In-person class sizes are limited, so register early. Classes with low registrations may be canceled. If the class is canceled or moved, participants will be contacted via email at least 24 hours in advance.

Classes start and end on time. To ensure a quality experience for all, please log in (virtual events) or arrive (in-person events) at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time. No participants will be admitted to a training 10 minutes after it has started. Full participation is expected, no partial credit will be awarded. Hard copies of certificates will be mailed upon request. Replacement certificates will be issued for a $5.00 fee.

Refunds will be made ONLY for cancellations received three business days prior to the event. If received less than three days prior to the event, a credit can be issued for use at another program within the next 6 months. If notice of cancellation is not received before the date of the program, no refund will be issued. PLEASE NOTE: No shows will be charged the full registration fee.

For In-Person events, it is difficult to control room temperature to everyone's comfort level. We suggest you dress in layers that can be adaptable to warm and cool temperatures. For auditing purposes, complete first and last names, arrival and departure times must be logged.

Webinar CEUs will take place on Zoom during the designated times. The link to join the webinar session will be sent in your registration confirmation email as well as registration reminder emails. Please note: Certificates will be emailed within 1 week after the training so long as the virtual attendance has been verified and evaluation returned. Webinar participants will need a device capable of running Zoom and a strong internet connection and speakers during the entire CEU session.
