Summary

Patient care providers offer valuable services and support. Yet successful patient care requires more than knowledge, skills, or experience.  It’s also about the quality of the communication. Learn what effective communication means, how it  benefits client/patient relationships,  and how it directly impacts health care.    Learn tips and experience communication skills and approaches to achieve and maintain successful patient/client care outcomes.

Objectives:

  • Assess current communication skills: strengths, challenges, and their impact on the workplace.

  • Define communication effectiveness.  Recognize its role in building  healthy client/patient relationships, and supportive environments that address client/patient needs and care.

  • Identify factors that can undermine communication effectiveness and   become obstacles to safe, supportive,  engaging work environments.

  • Recognize  verbal and nonverbal behaviors and language that impact client and patient perceptions regarding the quality of support and care that they’re receiving.
