Sometimes it's important to get back to basics!  This training focuses on a review of laws and ethical codes that govern the helping professions. Informed consent, confidentiality, scope of practice, duty to warn/protect are all reviewed, as well as a discussion of ethical decision making tools.  Ethical dilemma scenarios will be discussed with a chance for participants to discuss their own ethical dilemmas faced in their careers.     

Objectives:

  • Review and distinguish differences between laws and ethical codes
  • Review basics of ACA and NASW ethical codes
  • Review common ethical concerns including informed consent, confidentiality, and scope of practice
  • Discuss nuances and ethical requirements of the duties to warn and protect

How many times have you found out that a client referred for a problematic behavior ends up having more than one problem behavior?  Social Responsibility Therapy is a skills-based multicultural treatment that aims to decrease multiple forms of unhealthy, harmful behavior, increase socially responsible behavior and achieve healthy lifestyle goals. Participants will learn about the ART of getting what you want in life, and how to use Multimethod-Multipath Behavior Therapy to help clients develop healthy behavior success skills  The training has a large focus on the use of Multicutural values as a tool to develop socio-emotional maturity as a competing response to unhealthy behaviors.  Participants will also learn about the problem development triad to conceptualize problematic behavior, and the ACTS healthy behavior skills to help clients get what they want in life.     

Objectives:

  • Understand the top 3 issues that prevent clients from getting what they want in life by interfering with treatment
  • Become familiar with the Multicutural values that promote healthy relationship success skills
  • Learn about the problem development triad that conceptualizes the acquisition of unhealthy, problematic behaviors
  • Become familiar with the Multimethod-Multipath Behavior Therapy used  in SRT to help clients overcome problems and get what they want in life
  • Learn about the ART of relapse prevention through awareness, responsibility, and tolerance training
  • Learn how to implement the 4 healthy behavior success skills used in SRT 

About the Speaker:  Steve Kerestes, LPCC-S, LICDC

Stephen Kerestes is a coordinator of the School Based Mental Health team at CommQuest Services, Internship Coordinator and trainer for Pyramid Services.  He also serves as an adjunct professor for Motivational Interviewing at Walsh University. Prior, he was lead counselor at the Smith House, a residential treatment center for adolescents with substance abuse and mental health problems.  He specializes in teaching social responsibility to clients.  A graduate of the University of Akron, he has received extensive training in Motivational Interviewing as well as in problem gambling counseling.  He shows great passion in his work with clients as well as in supervision, training, and program development. He takes a creative approach to counseling and is a dynamic and engaging speaker. 

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION INFORMATION:

Class sizes are limited, so register early.  Classes with low registrations may be canceled.  If the class is canceled or moved, participants will be contacted via email at least 24 hours in advance.

Classes start and end on time.  To ensure a quality experience for all, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time and find a seat.  CEU credits will be adjusted 0.25 credit hours for every 15 minutes not in attendance; adjusted certificates will be emailed to participants within 3 business days after the training.  Hard copies of certificates will be mailed upon request.

It is difficult to control room temperature to everyone's comfort level.  We suggest you dress in layers that can be adaptable to warm and cool temperatures.

For auditing purposes, arrival and departure times and signature are required on attendance sheets.
