Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are a group of kindred conditions located in DSM-5's Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders and include trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder) and excoriation disorder (compulsive skin picking). Frequently dismissed as "bad habits," BFRBs are complex biobehavioral psychiatric disorders estimated to affect up to 5% of the general population. Frequently kept hidden from clinicians, they are steeped in shame and can be seriously impairing in all life domains. This webinar will provide current information on available and effectiveness of treatments and participants will be able to conduct an initial functional assessment and initial intervention with BFRBs by session’s end. Imagine being unable to stop the noise in your head. Imagine trying to get through your day while your mind is flooded with terrifying imagery. Now imagine not being able to get to work on time, hug your child, or function in school due to repeated and complicated rituals that are not complete until done perfectly. Imagine living life as if you have no control over your thoughts or your action. This is life with OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a serious and persistent mental illness and is included in the World Health Organization’s top ten of all debilitating illness. Yet despite its severity and prevalence, OCD is often reduced to meme-status or the punch-line of a joke. It is often misdiagnosed or left undiagnosed at great cost to overall quality of living and functioning for the individual and their family. Objectives:
