Although not a new concept, VR has gained some attention lately. As technology races to catch up with imagination, we are given some time to gain perspective and meet this technologically led cultural shift with an open mind and guarded heart.   What are the benefits and potential challenges of VR? What can it do for our clients?  And why should we even care? This presentation will define virtual reality and review the existing research. Potential ethical ramifications for the use of VR, practical implications for practice, supervision, and education, and the implications of DEI in technology will be discussed.

Objectives:

  • Gain understanding about Virtual Reality (VR) and its application in the mental health profession
  • Discuss perspectives, challenges, advantages, and efficacy of using VR in social work
