Smiles are known to be contagious. To our delight, we’ve found that smiles are even contagious through video calls. How do we know? When you join a virtual Sketching, Cell Phone Photography, Poetry, or BalloFlex class through Aging is an Art Form, you are welcomed by several smiling faces!

It is no secret that the older adults and those living with disabilities in our communities are positively affected by the arts and interpersonal connection. Both of these are important foundations to human socialization and are impactful in all stages and forms of life. In fact, this is what inspired Aging is an Art Form: the idea that art can and should be fun for everyone, regardless of age, mobility, or dexterity. It should be active and engaging. Then, with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting shutdown: the addition that art should be accessible no matter where you choose to call home.

Between shifting creativity into personal reflections through poetry exercises, expanding on knowledge to shoot balanced photos to be proud of, soothing the soul and rejuvenating the mind through nature sketches, and building confidence through safe movement, our participants and instructors are having a blast while staying connected.  Just take a look at the following screenshots from the classes and you’ll be inspired to set your own goals, achieve them, and inspire others to do the same.

“It does not matter if you are 3, 40, 60, or 100… (Aging) is an art form no matter what stage. We’re all going through these different stages of our lives… Appreciating our stages that we’re at and finding beauty in the darkness of things that are going on in life does come from within us.” - Julie Buckeye, BalloFlex instructor
