Summary: Since the passage of H.B. 33 individuals who are Social Workers, Counselors, & to Veterinarians, Animal Control Officers, and Law Enforcement Officers are now bound, by law to adhere to cross reporting obligations. Because there is such a high correlation between elder abuse, domestic and community violence with all types of animal abuse, it is critical for the professional to be able to identify both physical and environmental signs of animal abuse. There are also ethical concerns as to including animal abuse in informed consent and the realization that although there are significantly higher punishment possibilities this does not at all equal more safety. We will explore these and other questions in this session and also identify the consequences of both reporting, not reporting or false reporting signs of animal abuse. Objectives:

About the Speaker: Marcella Balin RN, BSN
Marcella Balin is well know and highly regarded as an educator and presenter. She is an independent nurse entrepreneur and lecturer with thirty-two years of experience. She began her nursing career in Brooklyn, N.Y. and spent a decade as an emergency room nurse while moving into the field of education. She parlayed years of widely varied teaching experience into a career of independent teaching and presenting. Since then, Marcella has concentrated on areas of development most empowering to herself and to those around her.
Her energetic schedule included developing and presenting a right variety of educational programs for professionals, teacher, corporate personnel, and private groups.
She has a BSN from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and years of ongoing professional education in human and organizational development.
REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION INFORMATION:
Class sizes are limited, so register early. Classes with low registrations may be canceled. If the class is canceled or moved, participants will be contacted via email at least 24 hours in advance.
Classes start and end on time. To ensure a quality experience for all, please arrive (in-person) at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time.
SOCIAL WORKERS: CEU credits will be adjusted 0.25 credit hours for every 15 minutes not in attendance; adjusted certificates will be emailed to participants within 3 business days after the training. LICENSED NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATORS: full participation is expected, no partial credit will be awarded. Hard copies of certificates will be mailed upon request.
Refunds will be make ONLY for cancellations received three business days prior to the event. If received less than three days prior to the event, a credit can be issued for use at another program within the next 6 months. If notice of cancellation is not received before the date of the program, no refund will be issued. PLEASE NOTE: No show will be charged the full registration fee.
It is difficult to control room temperature to everyone's comfort level. We suggest you dress in layers that can be adaptable to warm and cool temperatures.
For auditing purposes, arrival and departure times and signature are required on attendance sheets.
