Summary

Let's discuss fundamentals of Guardianship - Guardianship, Full Guardianship, Limited Guardianship and Emergency Guardianship. The much-needed basic manual that explains roles and responsibilities and how to make those decisions..  

Objectives:

  • Discuss the personal, professional and ethical considerations in referring individuals for the purpose of guardianship
  • Define and understand guardianship and process of appointing a legal guardian
  • Learn techniques for assessing both cognitive & physical limitations of an individual

About the Speaker: Lorrie Warren

The primary role as a Probate Court Investigator Lorrie A. Warren serves guardianship notice to individuals who may need assistance making decisions on their own behalf or managing their financial affairs.  She investigates the circumstances surrounding the need for guardianship which includes; Making direct contact with the individual by a conducting a personal visit in order to notify the individual of the application filed, evaluate their understanding of guardianship, and inform them of their rights. As the eyes, ears and nose of the Court Lorrie  assesses  the mental and physical condition of the individual and their living environment; as well as make a recommendation to Probate Court as to the necessity for guardianship or a less restrictive alternative.  As a Court Investigator Lorrie monitors existing cases (adult and minor guardianships), by collaborating with collateral contacts and troubleshooting as needed.  As a Certified Adoption Assessor for international, domestic and stepparent adoptions Lorrie conducts home study investigations.  Lorrie earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Ashland University. She has been Licensed Social Worker in the state of Ohio since 1987. She has been a Court Investigator for Summit County Probate Court for over 32 years.  Lorrie is active member of Tuff Stuff Committee in Summit County, is President of Area Wide Advisory Committee with Direction Home Akron Canton and serves as a member of the Elder Rights Committee and Board of Directors for Direction Home Akron Canton Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities.

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION INFORMATION:

Class sizes are limited, so register early.  Classes with low registrations may be canceled.  If the class is canceled or moved, participants will be contacted via email at least 24 hours in advance.

Classes start and end on time.  To ensure a quality experience for all, please arrive (in-person) at least 15 minutes prior to the class start time.  

SOCIAL WORKERS: CEU credits will be adjusted 0.25 credit hours for every 15 minutes not in attendance; adjusted certificates will be emailed to participants within 3 business days after the training.  LICENSED NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATORS: full participation is expected, no partial credit will be awarded. Hard copies of certificates will be mailed upon request.

It is difficult to control room temperature to everyone's comfort level.  We suggest you dress in layers that can be adaptable to warm and cool temperatures.

For auditing purposes, arrival and departure times and signature are required on attendance sheets.
